Why is the topography of the ocean similar to dry land?

  1. It is because all of the earths crust was formed at the same time and then subjected to very similar additional shaping forces both above and below water over time.

    This would include volcanic and tectonic forces and various types of erosion and so you get very similar forms.

    They are not however precise mirror images.

    Also keep in mind that much that is above water was once below and some of what is under water was once above.

    the land has air, the ocean is the equivalent

    of atmosphere.

    Then, the "weather" of the ocean over centuries

    or millenia has carved out valleys, mountain

    ranges, plains and TRENCHES.

    Even deserts.
