I have an economics question that says:

Find the most recent monthly unemployment rate for the City of Savannah and Chatham County. Report the rates and explain why there is a difference.

Savannah is in Chatham County.

The unemployment rate for Savannah is 5.6%

The unemployment rate for Chatham County is 5.0%.

Why is there a difference in these two rates?

  1. THE COUNTY OR STATE COMBINE ALL PEOPLE AND THEN DIVIDE BY THE UNEMPLOYED AND COME UP WITH AN AVERAGE. THE TOWN OR CITY DO THE SAME BUT SMALLER NUMBERS. A VERY LARGE TOWN MAY HAVE LESSOR MORE ON THE AVERAGE SMALLER TOWNS HAVE SEASONAL JOBS THEREFOR THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WILL BE LESS IN THE SEASONAL TIME OF YEAR. JUST AS THE HOMELESS RATE IS GENERALLY SMALLER IN SMALLER COMMUNITY'S.

  2. It's because the population is higher in cities.  Thus more unemployment for more people.

  3. MEXICANS

  4. That is close to the national average but a city's may stay higher because of the large concentration of people living there.

  5. Most of the jobs affected are in the city.

Rural areas mostly deal with agriculture or have no jobs, so are not as affected and people still eat no matter what the economy.

  6. Urban areas always attract lower socioeconomic people. They provide more government services and social programs that you can not recieve in less urban areas.
