Why is the word "concieted" so overrated?

Just because you have high-confidence and high self-esteem, doesn't mean you are "concieted"! What's wrong with loving yourself? Conceited people are more like Hitler and the "bad" people. No, I'm not "cocky" either.

  1. You spelt 'conceited' wrong. (feels ironic pointing this out)

Conceited people think they're much better than other people. If anybody disagrees with a conceited person's opinion, anybody better sit back and let the conceited person blow their top.

There's nothing wrong with being charismatic or having high self-esteem; just don't flaunt, don't act like your the queen, and don't put others down.

*Was Hitler conceited? Usually when I think conceited, I think petty and harmless. Hitler was something far worse.

  2. ..there are 2 things...you are either proud of yourself or you are humble....God brings the proud down and the humble he exalts.....just wait and see.....lol

  3. It's c-o-n-c-e-i-t-e-d; i before e, except after c....

  4. I don't know.  I haven't used (or even heard) the word since I was in high school.  (that was a long time ago; I turn 39 tomorrow.)  When you get into the actual adult world, "conceited" people become known as "confident" and "successful."

  5. Well, I understand where you're coming from. The word conceited could be seen as being confident and as having high self esteem. But it exist apart from them because it describes an extreme and overwhelming level of confidence and self esteem.

There is nothing wrong with loving yourself but as they say too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Having so much confidence that you end up seeing others as less than you are is being conceited. Having so much self esteem that all you see is yourself, is being conceited.

The word describes someone that is vain and self absorbed, someone that thinks that they deserve constant praise.

The meaning of the word has been belittled because people use it all the time without even caring whether it's in the right context. Sometimes people will say that a confident person is conceited when they really aren't.

It should only be used when that person has such a full opinion of themselves that it's all they see and that's all that they are concerned with, to the point that being around them is almost grating on your nerves.

I've heard people call just about anyone conceited, so if someone told you that you are and you know you're just being confident and self assured, don't let it bother you. Sometimes they don't even know what the word means, they just fling it around just because they can.
