Why is the word "war" so appealing to the US goverment?

It's not. It's when girls think of the gov't stopping foreign aggresion they think "Oh no more war". Yeah it sucks but it's necessary sometimes. (Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWII, etc)  Trust me nobody "loves" war, but if you run around afraid all the time, you will think "warmongers" are out to get you. That's kind of paranoid you know?

You may have been too young to remember that in 2001, Bush stated that the war on terrorism will be a long one.  They don't wear a uniform.

If we don't help our allies, they can't help us either.  That's why there is NATO.  

If Obama wins, I'll bet that after 1 month in office, people will be bashing Obama too, (or ignoring his mistakes).  Watch the History Channel if you want to learn about the truth of things, instead of listening to either the dems or repubs.

Because you want to be free to ask questions like that.  Sometimes, it just has to happen.  Next time you want to complain about our government, go out and yell it on the sidewalk.  Then, get down on your knees and thank God that some sect of secret police hasn't arrested you and your whole family.

I don't know that our government finds the word "appealing," but necessary; as the greatest world power for centuries, the US has found itself in a continual series of conflicts defending itself against a multitude of evils.  Historically, the term "war" has lent itself to a true (although often temporary) finality to a given battle, so perhaps that is why the term is most used to describe them as such.
