And yet condemning Russia for doing the same thing in Georgia.?Could it be an old pals act between America and Israel .? As a Brit I feel ashamed that we should side with our ally, America and the rest of the EU over this scandalous issue

  1. Because Israel is rightly that of the Jews (six day war)... "Palestine" doesn't exist, it belongs to the Jews, and they keep giving more and more of their land to the "Palestinians" to try to appease them but it's never good enough.

    This whole issue is ridiculous.

  2. Put quite simply, it is because people are tw*ts, and western governments are the biggest criminals in the world.

  3. read the words of Noam Chomsky , an american jew a ;

But aside from that -- there is a reason why Israel is condemned…

Plenty of other countries are much worse internally. But the occupation of Palestine is a harsh military occupation, which has a potential settlement -- everyone knows what the settlement is – a two-state settlement based on the international border. But Israel and the US rejected.

And when you say there is no economic interest [in Israel], its not quite true. Israel is kind of an offset of the US high technology industry. So the high tech industries in the US invests quite substantially in Israel- they have close relations in the military industries.

Intel has investment there, Warren Buffet just bought an arms manufacturer in Israel -- it is sort of an offshoot of the US at this point. In that sense, it is almost like having an offshore military base and high tech centre right on the periphery of the major energy resources of the world.

  4. Israel is continuously condemned, how could anyone miss this fact. There is no occupation as you correctly said of Gaza but also no occupation of Judea and Samria which Israel restored from Jordan's occupation in 1967.

  5. Why is it that I am fearful of speaking openly about my thoughts on this matter?

-easy for you to say that Michael W.

There are many Jews that are living in the U.S. who control the news media.  They do not highlight the horrible conditions under which Palestinians in Gaza are living.   I do understand Israel's point of view, however; they want to live with a sense of security - not fearful of rogue Palestinians lobing rockets into their territory.  Then, there is Iranian threat.  The people of Israel live under a constant state of threat.   I disagree with how they are strong arming the Palestinians into submission, though.   All it  does is create more and more hatred and which will never lead to peace.  It is a case of the oppressed becoming the oppressors. The Israelis don't seem to understand that you can't over-the-top retaliate and keep people caged into accepting you and wanting peace with you.

I am so surprised that Israel allowed passage of the two ships last week through the naval blockade and let the activists stay for a 10 day visit, but have you heard any of the news about that mission? I haven't here in the US - hmmmmm? I wonder why this good will gesture?  Are they getting ready to expand development over in the West Bank or were they afraid of how it might appear to the rest of the world to block this mission.

So, why isn't there more condemnation - I think it is part denial, part intentional and part apathy.  It is sickening to me.  Americans value the friendship of Britain, and it disturbs me to know that our allies are viewing us in this light of hypocrisy -but understandable.

Edit:  and Bob M has a point about the cheering - the image of which is still etched in the minds of many and supports the apathy I mentioned.  Maybe he forgets how the US had a big flag waving party when we initially bombed Iraq. Peopple being killed, and we are celebrating.  How was that show perceived by the middle east?

  6. The main difference is that the policy of certain Palestinian political parties is the complete destruction of Israel. Its a messy, complex situation. History could have easily gone the other way with the Israelis suffering under a harsh Arab regime.

The Georgian one is really more comparable to the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus, 30 years ago. And even though Turkey is a NATO ally, Europe has been unable to persuade them to leave.

Yes, its a double-standard. There is condemnation of Israel and Turkey but it is all rather toothless. But then so is the condemnation of Russia.

And none of these situations are unique. We also have Kashmir in India, Tamil Nadu in Sri Lanka, Tibet and the Uigher nation in China, the separatist tribal regions of Burma, Kurdistan in Turkey . . . the list of nations oppressed by others is endless.

  7. Because Palestinians are terrorists. You expect sympathy? Forget it.

  8. The way I see it, Israel is occupying, well, Israel.

Many a terrrorist resides in Gaza. Israel is protecting their own people, just like Britain would (or should) do.

I would imagine many Pal's live in Israel.

  9. Because the Arabs want the issue otherwise they would have simply not declared war on Israel and lost, would recognize Israel diplomatically, and would "solve" the Palestinian issue by having them return to their true home in Jordan where they were living happily until they tried to kill King Hussein and he crushed them and threw them out.

  10. Palestinians are squatters, plain and simple...and after they cheered upon finding out the twin towers had been destroyed with an unknown at the time, but up to a possible 28,000 death toll of innocent working men and women, I will always support Isreal and my government's support of Isreal against these rabid swine.  The fact that later, the death toll was found to be less than 4,000 doesn't change a thing...when they cheered, they thought tens of thousands of civilian men, women and children had died.

  11. Well, feel free to strip actions from context. That'll make life fairly interesting.

Simply because Palestinians, well, try to kill us. A lot. As in, giving pregnant women bombs to blow up hospitals. So we got on edge, and set up a wall. And you know what? It worked. I totally agree, it sucks, we should live in peace yada yada yada. But untill Palestinians use words over suicide bombing like big boys we can defend ourselves.
