  1. stabilization of potential energy to roughly equal values all around the perimeter of the planetary body.  Same reason water bodies are essentially flat.

  2. because that is how God created it to be. no human can answer that. it could have been square but it wasn't

  3. The world is basically a molten ball of rock with a thin skin on it. the gravitational pull of the planet pulls roughly equally on all points of the surface so it ends up as a ball.

  4. The world isn't round.  It is an oblate spheroid.  The circumference around the poles is less than the circumference around the equator.  This means than the earth is slightly flattened at the poles, and bulges a tad at the equator.

This is due to centrifugal force caused by Earth's rotation.

  5. to simply save the explorer's life time. :)

    serious, God knows

  6. Gravity pulls on everything.  Things that get too tall will eventually break and fall down due to gravity.  So the only shape any large celestial body can have is round (spheriods included).
