  1. well with temps rising ice is melting which means water is rising. I did a report on this and it said that greenland is being able to produce more food by it's self because of longer warming periods... but that also means places like FL and Mi could go under water with all the ice melting... I'm not sure what to believe....

  2. Yes, the planet is warming and humans are causing it.

No, it's not just melting ice.  It's also rising sea levels, increased droughts, heat waves, floods, food shortages, water shortages, etc. etc.

  3. I'm guessing you are very young (in middle or high school). Go to the IPCC website (Google Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or IPCC) and look through the working group reports.  I think Working Group II (2 ) is the potential impacts that scientist fear.  National Academy of Sciences, EPA, NASA, NOAA are also good but you need to search from there.

To greatly oversimplify, think of the earth as a spaceship that is carrying passengers through space (the old space-ship Earth analogy).  Our spaceship has to clean our water, air, soil, make our food, and provide everything we need. More and more passengers are getting on the ship making it harder and harder for the ship to provide for our needs.  The ship has many life support systems, (Carbon cycle, Nitrogen cycle, Hydrologic cycle for example) but if enough systems are at least partially compromised, some of the passengers will die.

Rapidly altering our climates has the ability to impact these systems.  Some impacts may be good but some are bad.  It can cause more severe droughts in some places, reduce our ability to grow food, reduce or kill-off species we use for food (land and ocean species - plants and animals).  If we slow the change down, it may lessen the severity of the impacts and give the systems and the passengers time to adapt.

You can't really think of it in the context of how will it hurt me today.  The impacts won't really be known until we look back and then calculate what has been lost.

Prediction is a hard thing to do (hence the debate).  Scientists have been working on answering the questions "Is global warming occurring?" and "What will happen?" for at least the past 25 years.  They account for the natural cycles of heating and cooling and increases in solar radiation and have found that human activity is a major factor. Most now agree we should be concerned.

The question now is really  "Have we started altering things on the planet so much that we are going to significantly reduce the ability of the planet to sustain life in the long term?"  We really don't want to hit the accelerator when we can't see the road ahead very well.  Some say yes, slow down.  Some say no, full speed ahead. Slow is better.

  4. It is not scary, the human race is doing very well because of global warming. Historical records show that humans have always done well during periods of global warming, and suffer because of global cooling. Droughts, storms and floods have always happened regardless if the climate is cooling or warming. Scientific evidence points to the climate cooling for many decades to come, with 6 Billion mouths to feed, now that's scary.

  5. Global warming is a hoax!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Here's what's so scary...

(Since it won't let me put a link on) Try going to wikipedia and typing in Effects of global warming

  7. Global Warming isn't just melting ice. Global Warming is already going on a little, but it we don't shape up will cause pretty much the end of the world.

Global Warming is caused my polution and cutting down trees. It is when the o-zone layer breaks. The o-zone layer protects use from the intense heat of our sun. It is sorta like a shield around the earth. Anyway, when the o-zone layer is gone... we are dead. When it is gone, we are going to be over heated, that is what causes the big chucks of ice and glaciers to break. But, if we get too over heated, A.C. can't even do anything and neither can your doctor. That's how powerful it is and why it's important to try to prevent Global Warming.

  8. global warming is a big hoax and just a way to scare and control people.  I do agree the temp of the world is possibly changing, but look at any period in the history of the plant and the temp changes.. this was far before humans, cars, etc.  The world constantly changes and the temp constantly changes.. i don't see why people don't get this and think by walking to work, recycling, turning off a light, etc will really make any different in global warming!

  9. Because it's true, and a serious threat.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Really good website for more information here:

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:

  10. no it"s not  the world goes thru cycles it warmed up a couple  a hundred  give or take  years ago no cars back then it'll start cooling down again then they will come up with something new and  improved to scare the people

  11. It's an impossibly huge problem that we need to fix right now. You could almost just ask if you want Florida to exist or not, with the rising sea level and all!

  12. It is a serious problem, and its up to everyone to start making changes in their lives in order to ensure a healthy future for our children and grandchildren.

People who say its not true, are just ignorant. If you are curious about the issue, rent Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. It is not the best documentary about the issue but it explains it in depth and makes it easy to understand.

I hope you see for yourself that more needs to be done about the issue of global warming.

  13. The world is talking about global warming because it makes certain people money. It is a huge cash cow. Yes the earth is warming slightly, but not so much you would notice. You would have to use scientific instruments to notice anything, but doesn't stop people from blowing global warming astronomically out of proportion. Did humans cause it? I doubt it. The earth is too big for that. The ones who will tell you the truth say the sun is emitting more energy than usual and that is the cause. So do we have anything to worry about? No. It is just the latest fad so some people can get rich off of your money.

  14. Global warming, which should be referred to as global climate change, is an extremely dangerous thing that was undoubtably caused by humans and our wasteful, polluting ways. With the rate that the ice caps and glaciers are melting, sea levels will rise seven to 23 inches by the end of this century, with the coastlines receding 100 feet per foot foot of rising. The earth will heat up even faster because the ice reflects 80% of the suns rays and absorbs 20%, while the open water and land that will show after the melt will absorb 80% of the sun's rays and reflect only 20% of them.

Global temperatures will rise between 2 and 11.5 degrees farenheit (1.1 and 6.4 degrees Celsius), with the likely estimates placing the rise between 3.2 and 7.1 degrees Fahrenheit (1.8 and 4 degrees Celsius), and even if the carbon dioxide emissions are stabilized right now, the temperatures and sea levels will continue to rise. This will cause heavy rains, heat waves, floods, droughts, and increases in the sizes of deserts.

There are things you can do to help lessen the blow of this inevitable monster, and they are easy and will save you money, if those are the incentives you need to save our planet. Buying energy star appliances and using flourescent bulbs save energy, so your bill is less and  buying hybrids and clean burning cars will save you money on the gas prices, I got a 32 mpg car for $11,000.

  15. yes!!! it's so true

  16. It's just stubborn men finding 'natural' explanations for what they see happening. God has sent an angel to pour a bowl upon the sun, that it may have the power to scorch men. It's in Revelation. But they can hardly admit that God exists, let alone is in charge!

  17. Well in the US this year alone has seen some of the worst  (extreem) weather in over 25 years. From record snow fall to tornados in the pacific northwest. and other countries are seeing effects like this as well. China has gotten hit recently wit the worst weather in 50 years. Yes the icce is melting but all of that ice that is melting has to go some where. The ocean levels will rise which can take out all costal cities around the world. With dramatic snow fall that many countries has seen recently can lead to flooding if it melts too fast. The ground does not have enough time to dry out naturally. When that happens  plants will stop growing and their goes our food supply. These are only a few of the problems are world is facing.
