No, the webmaster for this site is not sitting at the Yahoo computer going "Moo ha ha ha ha ha - guys are the superior s*x  so im going to make the default silhouette a male."  It's just there if you don't care about having a picture on there.

It is not worth the overhead of changing the picture depending on s*x. As it is that picture is displayed for everyone and then immediately replaced by your avatar. You rarely see the transition. Create an avatar or use a photo to replace it.
