i kno about the babe ruth thing and its an old rivalry but why do hate each other 2 the extreme especially the fans? and what makes too extreme is how you would wear red sox gear in new york, and yankee gear in boston and problems would already start. i think it is easier 2 make white and black supremacists get along than yankee and red sox fans.

  1. Baseball's a competative sport. And teams will develp rivalries such as the Red Sox and Yankees.

  2. I don't hate Sox fans, but the rivalry just adds fun to the game, and that's why it's great for the fans.

As far as people dying or being "seriously injured" because of the rivalry, I did actually hear of a case of this happening in the '90s, when three fans got into a drunken argument and one Boston fan got paralyzed, but that's just a few fans taking things too far. Most fans aren't like that.

  3. I don't know. A rivalry is getting out of hand when people are getting killed or seriously injured just because they like the team you hate though.

  4. It just runs way way back, and in the 90's and 00's, the Red Sox and Yankees have been strong teams who have competed for the division, so the rivalry stays fresh.  I was raised to hate the Yankees, it's in my blood.

    Go Sox!

To the girl below me: Actually, I've never really heard of anyone dying because of this rivalry. I've heard of people being killed in the Cubs/White Sox rivalry, and I've heard of people being killed in the Dodgers/Giants rivalry, but not the Sox/Yanks rivalry. I think that even though the fans of these two teams hate each other SOO much, they innerly respect them. I know a lot of Sox fans who respect Yanks fans for the knowledge and passion they have for the Yankees.  Just because they root for the other team doesn't mean they have to die!

  5. because these two teams have been battling for the top sopt against each toher for the longest time

  6. 1. The Curse of the Bambino when Boston traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees for cash and then the Yankees won their championships and the Red Sox were without a championship for over 80 years.

    2. The fact that that for over 80 years, they have been in the same division and competed for the first or second spot most of that time while having the two highest payrolls and the most serious fans.

    3. The 1970's were the catalysts for the hatred. The rivalry of hatred really started here. The Red Sox went to the World Series in 1975 and lost. The Yankees went in 1976 and lost. In 1977 and 1978, they both had heated brawls. Carlton Fisk fought Thurman Munson and Lou Piniella. Graig Nettles dislocated Bill Lee's right pitching arm in a brawl. Yankees fans used to throw batteries and beer down on Jim Rice, and Dwight Evans. Red Sox fans used to taunt Reggie and Lou Piniella in the outfield. Bucky Dent hit that famous homer in 1978 to eliminate Boston and that just intensified the hatred Boston had for New York as they then went on to win back to back World Series in 77-78.

    4. Psychologically, the curse sat in Red Sox players and fans memories for 86 years as they Yankees went on to win 26 chmapionships, the most ever in professional sports, within that time.

    5. In the late 1990's, the Yankees became a dynasty winning in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Seeing Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens, the greatest players in Red Sox history at their positions win in Yankees uniforms, intensified the hatred some more.

    6. In 2003, when a better Boston team lost in the playoffs to the Yankees in game seven on an Aaron Boone homerun, the curse continued.

    7. More brawls! Roger Clemens throws at Manny Ramirez head. Pedro Martinez throws Yankees coach Don Zimmer to the ground. Yankees pitcher Tanyon Sturtz is double teamed by David Ortiz and Gabe Kapler. Yankees pitchers and OF Karim Garcia fight with fans in the bullpen at Fenway. Gary Sheffield hits a fan in the first row in RF at Fenway.

    8. Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 and 2007. The tables turn on the Yankees fans who are now bitter.

    9. A Red Sox fan working on the new Yankee Stadium buries a Ortiz Red Sox jersey in hopes of jinxing the new Yankee home. Co-workers turn him in and his family receive death threats as he is forced to leave New York and pay for the charges to excavate the jersey out from the stadium.

    10. Multiple stories of fans killing each other including a New York fan who ran over Boston fans with her car and two Yankees fans who beat a man in to a coma for wearing Red Sox stuff in a bar all happened within the last two years.

In essence, there is no other rivalry as intense or heated in any sport anywhere in the world like the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry.

  7. because the red sox fans were the first to tell the yankee fans to stick it
