Why is there NO SWIMMING in Gatun Lake ?

I had the pleasure of visiting this scary farm near there and saw that sign.Two little kids were swimming anyway though.

I have swam in the "lake" at the Gatun Yacht club many times. Water is fresh and very clean. It is roped off, but I don't think that would stop any gators, but then again I never saw any in that area.
