I was looking for a picture of the big Ned Kelly at Glenrowan, and I discovered a picture of another one at Maryborough: why is there one there? And why is he in armour? Did Ned Kelly go to Queensland? Did he get the idea for his armour up there?

  2. For many years in the 1960s and 1970s the first Maryborough motel you saw when driving north into the town was "Kelly's Motel".  It had a restaurant and was fairly well known as it was possibly the first large motel to be built there. I'm pretty sure it was there in 1963.  Sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s I think, the Ned Kelly thing appeared,  just promotion for the business.

Ned Kelly never went to Queensland, as far as is known.  Maybe the people who owned the motel were related, who knows?

  3. I think it is part of a motel complex there called "Ned Kelly's Motel", and the owner was an entusiast of Ned Kelly, and thought the idea of a big Ned Kelly outside his motel to attract tourists to stay the night.

Ned Kelly never went to Queensland, and he did not get his idea for armor there.

The motel's funny slogan is "Where your treated like one of the gang!".

  4. Ned Kelly's was a restaurant in Maryborough until someone burnt it down.  Sorry I can't answer anymore of your question cause I don't have the answers for it.
