Why is there a 'law on the books' in Saudi that any male over the age of twelve may not herd animals?

I have been told that a law exsist, prohibiting any male over the age of twelve to herd, feed or handle live stock. The job is left for women and girls. What seems to be the problem to mandate such a law?

  1. Umm...no. Firstly, I was born a Saudi, I have Saudi Roots (23rd generation) and rasied in Saudi. Now, If you fellas ever opened up a book, which I highly doubt, except for your oh-so-wonderful pornography, you might learn something.

Seeing that I HIGHLY doubt you know this, look it up: Enclosure Acts > The British government set this act in motion back in the 19th century to drive its people to move to cities , to start urbanization and kick start the Industrial Revolution.

Now this law is a similar thing, except in Saudi Arabia, our king isnt a big B@$tard who does something his people dont want, now I say that because the Enclosure Act wasnt a one piece published sort of thing, it was slowly churning its way; rather this saudi law was a clear message to the Saudis in the late 1800s, "get the h**l off of farms and lets start Industrialising!" ofcourse alot of people demanded an explanation, and the king gave them one, no lies (something that American politics apparently is overflooded with, these lies) "The law says SAUDI males, it doesnt say anything about NON-Saudis (i.e. usually servants) so the people grumbled about it, but it kept going its way and led to further industrialization. and thats why we own %51.78 of the United States' in terms of Investment, and oh, the number is growing, by each passing year.

  2. Strangely enough I have also heard the same story from other people who have worked in that region.

It was explained to me that men do not get involved with women and thus do not have a sexual outlet.  The law or edict is to prevent men from practicing bestiality with animals.

Interesting question and hope my answer helps.

**** EDIT **** Men handle Camels and horses but the story I heard involves sheep, goats and cattle.

  3. because Saudi men were notorious for having s*x with their goat when they are alone in the wild herding them. So the tribal chieftain got together one day and put down a rule prohibiting it.

  4. If it is a 'law', it sure isn't enforced.  You only see men out with the camels.  Sometimes you even have to stop in the highway for the camels to cross the road.  (smaller highways, not a big one like Riyadh-Dammam where there's fences on both sides)

  5. i've never heard of such a thing.
