Why is there a big antenna on top of the house?

I see houses with big antennas on top of the roof. Why are they there and whats it used for?

They may be Television, CB radio, HAM radio or Business band radio antennae.

Because you are a very LUCKY person....somebody installed the best antenna system around....

This is for local TV signals, and you should have a black RF antenna wire somewhere in your living room or family room...or a white plate with an RF connector on it to connect to your TV set....

Now if you find it in a back room with a FUNKY connector on it, then it's for CB or shortwave radios....but those are rare.
