  1. I always thought it was foreigners that didn't tip because they are not aware of the guidelines. I tip 15%-20%  depending on the service. Just last week I had fantastic service and gave a 25% tip.

However, I will point out that there are places I flat refuse to tip:

Luby's - I felt they had their gall putting the waitstaff there so they could shift their payroll costs to the customer and not reduce their prices one cent. That, plus, I go through the line and get my own food, I never ask for refills (I usually have water and don't finish it) and I get my own condiments. I will be darned if I will tip someone to bring me a straw seeing as they make you get them from the waitstaff.

Walk-up counters with tip jars: Quiznos, Subway, concession stands, etc. Excuse me? Next thing you know they will be putting tip jars in Wendy's, Burger King and McDonalds.

There are some places that should never go down the road of asking for tips. They shoot themselves in the foot because then the company they work for is going to call them tipped employees and pay them half the minimum wage.

  2. i am from ireland and tipping is not overly common

  3. Your question is moot! You need to specify!

  4. Because they are cheap and ignorant. Also, I'm not buying the "I'm foreign, I didn't know" c**p. If you come to the US, I'm sure at some time you have come across the American tipping customs. "I didn't know" is code for,  "I'm too cheap!!"

  5. there are a few stereotypes on this topic..  I think it depends on who you ask..

  6. I know it's not my race, because I tip 20%  everytime.  I know that they don't make good money hourly and rely on the tips.  Unless of course you give terrible service, then i would do the minimum, 10%.

  7. Tipping differs in different cultures.
