Why is there a dot under the r in Curlin's name on the hat?

Just wondering if it it has something to do with the slave guy or the owners or anything.

I read the horsehats.com page about having a hat made for your horse...  and it says that they design the hat.  you send the name and I believe you send the images of the silks that go on the hat too, and maybe what's written on the back...  but I'm pretty sure that the horsehats people design what the text actually looks like.

I don't mean to say that the dot has no significance...  I mean I don't know why it would be there if it didn't mean anything...  but I don't know if the owners requested it or if the horse hats people included it.
