Why is there a flower on the cover of New Moon by Stephanie Myer?

It's a big red and white flower that has one petal falling off and I don't understand how it has anything to do with the book.

It doesn't have anything to do with the book, Stephanie said so herself.  She didn't choose it, the publisher and marketing people did, and even she doesn't know why.
