Why is there a fork or spoon in every lawn by the mailbox in my neighborhood?

Someone has placed either a fork or spoon with the handle in the ground next to the mailbox of every home in my neighborhood. What does this mean? We got a spoon. I have asked a couple of the neighbors and noone knows Thanks for any insight.

Wow, obviously someone is trying to make a point. I've never heard of this before. Surely, when you figure it out, please post it.

Is there a food drive going on in the neighborhood? Sometimes the post office will collect non perishables for donation. This may be your mail delivery persons way of reminding you all that Monday is the day you are supposed to leave your donations out by the mailbox (?).

Are the utensils silver/metal or plastic? Using non disposable items sounds expensive to me. I just recently replaced all of my utensils, and even low buck silver plated was $80.

Did every person in your neighborhood find a utensil, or just those that live around your immediate area?

Is it possible that it means nothing, that this was something a bunch of kids came up with as a prank? If it is, you gotta laugh, as they were able to get everyones attention and wonder what is going on, without doing something destructive, hurtful or ignorant--(which is great! Unless they used they're Moms good silver, LOL).

I am perplexed as well. Have all the peices come from the same set, do they match? This could indicate if it was the work of one, or a group.

Interestingly, noone recieved a knife. Even a butter knife is a knife and that could be percieved as a threat, so noone is trying to scare anyone.

I gotta think something is going on in the neighborhood, a food drive, or collection of some sort. This is someones very creative way of reminding folks. Do you remember seeing a flyer on your mailbox/door recently. Is there a board in your neighborhood where people post goings on? Does anyone remember seeing anything in the local paper?

At any rate, I don't think that whoever did this meant it to be a threat of some sort, so thats good. Hmmm, does your neighborhood have boundries with a commercial neighborhood? It just occurred to me, because our neighborhood does. Whenever a new business, such as a bar or restaurant wants to build at the end of our neighborhood, there is a meeting and the residents get to speak before the zoning board to give they're opinion. Is someone trying to build near you, and this is a neighbors peaceful reminder to attend that meeting?

Ok, I'm out of ideas, if none of this is it, I hope I have sparked some new thoughts for you. Please DO let me know how this turns out, I am really curious!
