I'm very curious, because it's soy milk and shouldn't contain dairy!

  1. If the OU designated it dairy, it means that it is probably packaged/produced in a factory that also handles dairy products, probably near one another.

Orthodox Jews take mixing meat and dairy very seriously, (we have separate refrigerators, tablecloths, and plates) so for something to be parve (that is the "P" or sometimes it's also written out as "pareve" meaning "neutral") it has to be completely meat- and dairy-free, and there is no way to be sure that a teeny bit of regular milk did not mix with your soy milk.

(But rest assured... it doesn't contain enough dairy to be a significant disturbance to a vegan diet)

  2. Some soy milk does contain dairy, that's why you have to read ingrediants.

  3. Check and see if it has Vitamin D3 added to it. Just a thought. I know that 8th continent has (or had) D3 in it.

  4. Sometimes the manufacturer heats the soymilk on equipment that is also used for dairy.  OU no longer has the "DE" designation, so any product that contacts dairy equipment is labeled "OU-D".
