I play Univeristy ball for a Canadian Univeristy in Winnipeg...we have been trying to find tournaments to go to close to home so we don't have to travel cross country all the time to play in them. We would love to go down to the states and play but there are no mens teams in the area. And whenever we talk to buddies of ours in the states they laugh when we ask about mens vball...why is mens vball looked down on in the states??? It is loved in Canada especially Manitoba!!!!!

  1. because men like more rough sports and in this one there is no contact involved

  2. well i think there should be more because they are good

but if you want to see more look it up on youtube  it is like how hard men can hit it is amazing

  3. volleyballcoachz said it all

  4. Ya i understand completely. Most mens volleyball games are on the beachs during the summer. I live in Missouri and there are practically no mens volleyball teams anywhere.

  5. ahh i know!!!!! I live in Colorado and I dont think there are any men's volleyball teams..even in highschool! They are amazing players. I lvoe watching them....I guess you could play highschool tournaments..In Fairbanks Alaska...which is close to you, my cousin plays on a really good team..but thats the on place where i know they have boys volleyball

  6. It's because of American Football, Baseball, and Basketball. Boy's are raised in this country from a very early age to play all three.

Volleyball, like Soccer (futbol), is a world-wide phenomenon, but considered by many in the US to be sissy games for girls.

The only reason your friends in the states laugh at it is because we don't have great grassroots programs here. If they were introduced to it young, instead of being socially trained that it's a girl's-only sport, they would be playing it, or at least know it exists.

As a boy's coach in WI (Our season is in the fall), I compete for numbers with varsity Football and Soccer. If our season was in the Spring, we'd be competing with varsity Baseball and Track & Field.

We do get lucky that volleyball players can play basketball, but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to convince people how closely related both of the sports are in body mechanics. If they understood it, and if they did not play football or soccer in the fall, they'd all play Volleyball.

It's frustrating for you to find games I understand. But just imagine people, like me, in the US that are trying to improve the situation. It's like throwing a tennis ball at a concrete wall to break through it.

We definitely need a Karch Kiraly again, or have Carmelo Anthony, like Wilt Chamberlin, switch to Volleyball :), to make it the sport again like the 80s.

  7. It is not up to where I believe it could or should be yet, but it is getting there. Currently, there are several states with sanctioned boys volleyball at the high school level, including Arizona, California, Nevada, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, and a few others. There are college club mens programs coast to coast, and a growing group of NCAA volleyball teams for men.  If you want to find tourneys to play in, go to USA volleyball's web site and look up the closest region to where you would come down into the states - there is an interactive map to find your nearest region.

  8. I agree with volleyballcoachz.  Boys are given the opportunity to play Football, Basketball and Baseball more often than Volleyball.  While girls play Volleyball, boys are playing Football.  Most of the time if boys are blessed with height, they play Basketball.  Most coaches, like myself, coach girls club in the off season so our time is invested there instead of coaching boys.  That is my opinion.
