Why is there a large Lebanese population in Australia?

What is it that the Lebanese are attracted to in Ausralia as opposed to Europe or elsewhere? Especially . . there are a lot of the last name 'Malouff' or 'Malouf' ?

  1. Since the Second World War, Australia has gradually encouraged immigrants from a wider pool of countries. The White Australia Policy (which restricted immigrants based on racial grounds) was officially dismantled in 1973. Many Lebanese people migrated to Australia after the Arab-Israeli War on 1967, and again after the civil war in Lebanon in 1975.


  2. Would like to know that too. They don't want to assimilate, just continue the war they are fleeing, especially in outer Sydney.

I moved interstate from Sydney years ago to get away from all the trouble they were causing,I couldnt stand to live there any more, they are too violent.  I dont really know why they come here,,maybe Australia is too relaxed in who they let into the country so its easier for them to get in here than another country.
