Why is there a large illiterate rate in the women of Morocco?

Could this be due to a cultural preference, or a lack of education maybe? Some one with more cultural knowledge please speak.

Because it is a particularly harsh Muslim society whose government does not value women as independent, learned citizens.

yes its cultural which is intertwined with a religion that subjugates women.  this is contrary to the teachings in the holy books which called for emancipation of women.  

its men tt subjugates the women.  so it has continued till today.  women's role is confined to kitchen and kids. so u dont really need literacy to do that - so reckon the sickening male chauvinists.  

isnt it sad?

it has become cultural and will continue to perpetuate itself for centuries to come unless and until a man or grp of them realizes that women shld be given that right o govern alongside the men.
