  1. Because it leads to depression and makes you feel really bad.

  2. Low self esteem can lead to depression and depression is very dangerous because depression can lead to suicide eating disorders ect.

  3. because it is painful.  Although i have to add that people may think others have low self-esteem when they in fact do not,  if a person exhibits some behavior and others tell them they have "low self-esteem" and need to change this behavior, there may truly be nothing to overcome if this person does not really dislike themselves.  I've seen this happen when people are quieter, more humble, or timid, qualities which don't necessarily mean low self esteem, but could.  It's about how the person feels about themselves not what others think

  4. Because low self esteem holds you back.

It gets the best of you.

    And that's just wrong.

  5. Low self-esteem is the root of many psychological issues--all negative.  If you don't love yourself, how can you love or care about anyone else?  Anti-social behavior, depression--from mild to extreme, up to the point of suicide.  Yes, it is definitely something that should be dealt with.  It may take years to overcome, so the important thing is to make a start in the right direction and begin as soon as possible.  Treatments are not all equally effective, but doing something is usually better than doing nothing.  There are many different approaches, such as counseling, support groups, activity groups, community service.  Lastly, and definitely my least favorite treatment is medication.  Don't go runnin for the shelter of mother's little helper, if at all possible.  I recommend taking up a social or environmental cause--putting one's energy into helping others or the planet really helps to build a strong sense of self-worth.

  6. who in their right mind WANTS to feel the way they do with low self-esteem? it's not a good feeling that's why most want to get rid of it

  7. Low self esteem effects our self worth.  This can lead to destructive and often dangerous behaviors and addictions.  Low self esteem also often effects our performance at our jobs (or school) and prevents us from working to our true abilities, sometimes costing us jobs or future accomplishments.  It also has a huge impact on us socially.  Disabling us to create positive relationships and friendships and often empowering hateful or disrespectful behavior towards others.

  8. That's a good question.

I think that the main reason depends on the consequences of this. If having low esteem stops someone from getting a good job, or having a relationship than that person should defiantly overcome it.

If there's no issue - than it seems like it's okay, but I believe that having low self esteem means you don't like youself, and then you can't really let someone else like you.
