Why is there a state called west virginia?

i never heard of a state called west virginia until yesterday and i want to know who named a state west virginia.

Geez, weren't you forced to memorize all of the states in school? I find it ridiculous how people don't even know West Virginia exists. I can't help to be slightly offended by it.

West Virginia and Virginia split during the civil war because each state held different beliefs.

You don't ask why there is a North and South Carolina? Or a North and South Dakota?

Because we wanted 50 states but we only had 49 lol.

it used to be just VA but it spilt during the civil war because one half wanted to be with the south and the other didn't

Well i happen to live in Virginia, The state was once a part of Virginia,

But it broke up during the civil war while West Virginia went with the north and Va went with the South,  It never actually reunited, Probably because of the difference of everything and how did you never hear of it?

Some amazing places are there Charleston for an example!
