Why is there a top line on lined paper if we never use it?

  1. I use the top line! Its where I name and date my work!


  2. Even if there wasn't that line, the one that's below that would become top and then we'd never use that either. x

  3. I use the spaces in between the lines.

As others have said on lined paper there will always be a top line even if we remove the topmost line.  Now to your question about it not being used.  We were told even when small and coloring that we needed to keep between the lines.  It then becomes natural for us to start writing on the second line thus keeping it between the lines.  At that point we are using the topmost line to fix the height of what we are writing.

  7. If paper is lined, there will always be a top line. If you take it away the next line down would be the top line. Even if there was only one line on the page...!!!
