Why is there a whole group of snowboard instructors who do this?

Why do so many snowboard instructors talk c**p and act like they are better riders than everyone, just because they got some 3 day certificate to teach people falling leaf?

What about them makes them unable to look at actually good riders and realize they are nowhere close to that level?

There are lots of cool snowboard instructors who actually are good riders. I'm not talking about them.

I am talking about the ones who go off the 60 foot tabletops, but only land 10 feet from the lip, and claim a 60 foot jump, but then talk c**p to people who jump and actually clear it, spin, but don't stick their landing.

Why is there a whole breed of snowboard instructors like this?

Maybe some cool snowboard instructors could clue us in?

Anybody?

Sorry, being a dedicated snowboarder this really irritates me.

And being injured and stuck at home makes me grouchy :/

  1. They are all little Napoleons

  2. I'm not a snowboarder (skier), but I think it has something to do with having certifications, or wearing a jacket that says you know what you are doing.

It's the same thing with ski instructors. The older, certified instructors stand around a lot, but when they ski, they are really "BORING". They just turn...no jumps, no challenges. Just boring.

And the funny thing is all the more aggressive, "cool" as you put it, instructors are relegated to the beginners because they don't have much under their belts in the certification department.

These are vague generalities of course. There are always exceptions.

Here's something else to think about: many instructors don't want to embarrass themselves in front of the public. In fact, their snow sports directors may have told them not to do anything on snow that would make them look like an idiot...like performing a huge egg-beater right under the chair.

In any case...don't listen to them. Why should it bother you? Who cares, right? Just do your thing.

But first you have to get better!!

Hopefully you recover soon and get back to the snow.

  3. Its just human nature - people that want to be a part of something but aren't good enough to impress people with their skill or talent try to make up for it by getting "power" which they think impresses others.

I volunteer teach kids to snowboard and I always admit to them that they are probably better than I am - but we can teach each other something no matter how small.

And as a teacher, when someone tells me they can do a 540 off of a 2 foot lip, I admit that I cannot but that I would love to see them do it!

    Good Luck

  4. The title "snowboard instructor" definitely gives these kids a big head, AND definitely gives good instructors a BAD name.   I instruct at Jiminy Peak in western MASS and out of the 20 instructors there are probably like 5 kids(including me ) that actually clear the jumps in the park and spin and not case the p**s out of jumps like your referring to.  I can definitely understand your standpoint,  But lets not throw all of us in the same catagory.    Its unfortunat that kids act like this, b/c I like to encourage everyone that rides to progress and try new stuff and hit bigger jumps than usuall and try that kink that you have been afraid of, but there are just alot of little fa*g*ts that talk c**p and really suck.   IM not one of them.    (I do like burton tho) hehe.
