Why is there all this talk about Elite XC being an abomination to MMA?

I remembered when UFC was a more like a freak show and that was pure entertainment. Nothing is pure about sports these days if it wants to make any money. I don't see what the problem is.

In my opinion it's mostly due to Kimbo Slice.  EliteXC likes to market him as this super-strong and dominant heavyweight, when in reality he's just a brawler, and hasn't fought any legitimate opponents. A lot of people think that because they put all this emphasis on Kimbo, they aren't focusing on true mixed martial artists.  Also, there is a lot of bias amongst new MMA fans towards the UFC, just because it is the larger organization, so they don't feel that EliteXC has any talent or place in MMA.

There is no problem.

The Questioner is right. Just two years ago I remember UFC putting Gannon (Kimbo Slice's opponent in the famed street fight) inside their Octagon.

When UFC take Pride over, who do they put as the first opponent for Rampage Jackson and CroCop? 2nd raters too. They want those 2 to win spectacularly to hype them up. It's called business practice.

Elite XC doesn't have that kind of money to buy off Pride's top competitors, they have Kimbo Slice and they will market Kimbo as much as they can.

I hate that Kimbo and James Thompson fight not because of the decision to put them in the card, but mostly because of the ref of that fight, Dan Migliota (I think) is such a bad ref (thus lots of allegation of rigged fight). I mean he stood up the fighters when Thompson had side control???? I would've smacked Dan right there right then if I were Thompson, or refuse to continue to fight.

Kimbo is not a top competitor.....yet.

He is under Bas Rutten's wing though, and with his popularity....and potential of making much more money, Rutten will make sure that Kimbo is getting better each time.

So to people that put UFC on this holier than thou pedestal, do remember that UFC also use sensasionalism for it's advertisement, all sports do.

UFC doesn't need any more stars, if anything they weed their fighters as much as possible so they only pay the high salary to very select few.

UFC has their own cannon fodders for those that THEY want to groom. Fighters like Marvin Eastman or Elvis Sinosic is known to be just that.

And since UFC has more highly skilled fighters, it just useless  to rely only on names, Brock Lesnar has too big of a name and experience in this industry, he probably demand high pay, that's why UFC straight away throw him with the sharks to see what he's made of.

Kimbo is a whole different story. I believe he started with a very low pay and not until recently that he got a decent contract along with his raising popularity.

If it's just the pitting of pure skills you want, then watch Abu Dhabi.

Sure UFC has reached the stage where they have so much talents in their rank, but money rules in this business and it's just a matter of time until they make another stunt just  to prop up Dana's favourite fighter.

It's an abomination for a few reasons that we saw saturday night (amoung others) I'm not even gonna discuss the S****y cheerleaders or retarded entrances.They market some hot chick that admitedly didn't train much, came in overweight by 4 lbs which is really quite a bit, the annoucers say "she'll have to share her winnings with the loser" Then after its over she stops herself just short of saying how EASY the fight was if you remember, and changes course to say it was tough.

The next fight was actually decent. You have a guy get poked in the eye, you tell him he gets 5 minutes to recover, the broadcasters tell the audience he gets 5 minutes, and less than a minute later the fight is over. and 2 minutes later he's walking around like nothing happend telling the audience he could have continued if he got his 5 minutes. Did I miss something or did the doctor decide about 3 minutes into the 5 that he was not coming back?  Severly disappointing finish.

The slice fight was so jacked up I don't know where to start. First, why didn't they drain Thompsons ear before the fight? looked like they were asking for a bloodshow/ freakshow/ circus act, whatever you want to call it. Why does the ref put them back on their feet when Thompson is clearing winning or trying to posistion himself over slice on the ground? Why do the announcers ask each other who's winning and one of them says "i don't know" when CLEARLY thompson spent 80% of the time pounding slice on the ground? WHY does the fight get stopped just b/c Thompson got hit a couple times? watch the replay, he went from wobbly, to sturdy on his feet BEFORE the ref jumped in. It was pretty obvious that Thompson was robbed. He took some similar licks the last round but managed to dive into slice' hips and ground and pound him and I believe he would have done that again.  

Oh well, I don't know where they go again but if they want to give him a better fighter or even an average ground fighter Slice will lose soon.

Because they put on a main event that had no business being anything other than an undercard fight.  The freak show sensitivity is due to long-time fans being tired of hearing the same criticisms of MMA, only to have them reinforced with someone like Kimbo Slice.

Because they aren't interested in showcasing the most exciting sport on the planet; they're interested in creating a circus and hoping people tune in to watch the spectacle that is Kimbo Slice.

Don't you think its odd how they have Kimbo fight the loser of Thompson and Rogers? Why not have him fight the winner? Oh right, because he would have lost. EliteXC treats MMA like boxing, they give their fighters tomato can opps. to inflate their records and then hope the world doesn't notice. UFC and WEC don't mess around; you either fight the best or you go somewhere else. They could have given Lesnar (their superstar in the making) easy fights, but they put him against a former champion and BJJ expert in Frank Mir. Even when he lost they're not going to let him just go out and get an easy win; his next fight is against Heath Herring, yeah, you know the guy that should have beat Minaturo and just beat Kongo.

EliteXC isn't a legitimate organization because it isnt trying to be. The UFC doesnt insult your intelligence, it doesnt sell you inflated records, or expect you to pay $50 based on street-fighting hype. The UFC doesnt need to protect it's fighters because they only want to show you the best versus the best, That's a philosophy that EliteXC should pay attention to.

The whining is from UFC fanboys, who feel threatened that EliteXC will over take the UFC in popularity.

Their irrational hatred for Kimbo speaks evidence.

They can't see the forest because of the trees.  EliteXC in Network TV is the best way to make MMA mainstream.  As of right now, the general public   have a very hazy idea what MMA or even the UFC.  Most never heard of a BJ Penn or a Chuck Liddell.

Really.  They haven't.  We all know them because we are part of the cult that follow the sport.  It is a kind of Xenophobia, where we think everyone thinks and knows the same things we do.

saturday night on cbs was the biggest embarrassment for them i've ever seen, that "kimbo" "fight" was staged all the way, if "kimbo" ever fought anyone, i mean a good fighter, he'd be toast before the first round was over. enjoy it while it lasts... kimbo fans... enjoy it while it lasts.
