Why is there always just 1 shoe lost on a roadway?

In all of my 58 years I have never seen a PAIR of shoes (not connected to a body) that have somehow exited a moving vehicle. There is always just 1 shoe lying there.

Man, I was going to ask how come all the bodies I come across only have one shoe on! I think there may be a connection here!
