Why is there an increase in physical scientists? @__@?

The number of specialised fields in physical science has grown during the past few decades. Why do you think this growth has occured?

  1. It wasn't that long ago that scientist thought they knew all there was to be known about the Universe and how things worked, and all that was left was to cross all the "t's" and dot all the "i's" (sorry for the cliche).

    Then, along along came Einstein who stood physics and many other scientific worlds on their heads. With quantum physics also muddying the waters, for every question answered, a hundred take it's place.

    All we know now is how some things work, but in most cases, not why. There is a lot more at play at the quantum level than we can comprehend, maybe forever.

    We are now beginning to know how much we don't know.

    Edit:  Holy Cow!!! I'm the first to answer a Q!!! This surely must be the 7th sign of Armageddon.


  2. We have only just discovered an assload of different aspects to the universe, quantum physics would have been mind boggling to a 19th century physicist.
