Why is there no clocks in resteraunts I go to? Is this some kind of unwritten rule?

McDonald's and Burger King have very young clientele that can't tell time yet.  Try going to a better place to eat.

Some restaurants have clocks for other time zones. They;re usually really high in the wall.

hey thanks for bringing it up. no answer for you really but thanks. didn't even notice, probably cos we go out to eat to get away from office and home and to relax, anyway we have our own wrist watches

I do think a lot of places want you to relax and enjoy your meal.  Maybe stay a little longer, eat and drink a little more, and leave a better tip.  Overall they want you to have a good experience in their restaurant.  Some places may not have a clock because it clashes with their decor.  I don't know.

I'm sure they have one somewhere.  But I think they don't want you to be worried about the time; enjoy your meal so you come again for the same, relaxed experience.  Also, if you aren't as concerned about the time, you may get that extra glass of wine and dessert.  XD

They don't want you to know how long it is taking for your food to get there. I was a server for 5 years, trust me we never want you to know how long it is actually taking. Servers will try to distract you when they know it is taking a long time. Of course you usually have a watch on, so it kind of defeats the purpose, I suppose.

Maybe management feels that it's to their employees best interest.  Sorta like when you're working and constantly keep looking at the clock, time seems to go by really slow.  On the other hand, when you have no idea of the time, you realize that your work day is almost over when you do finally check the time.

Most have one located somewhere.  But you know what it's not an office you're there to relax.

For the same reason you will not find a clock in a casino, supermarket or other retail outlets (department stores or stores in the mall, but you may find a clock at a mall every once in a while)>>>>they want you to get totally lost in spending your money and they don't want you to think about what time it is, where you have to be or how long you have been there.

Today, 90% of people own watches and/or some sort of cell phone/PDA device which usually tells time.

Clocks are an expense (electricity or batteries) that most businesses do without.

If you need to know the time...buy your own watch.  As a business, they have a service to sell you............and it isn't 'time', it's food.

no reason its not like there wanting to have you sit in that seat for hours, if anything we are trying to turn you over as fast as possible.  Its not like vegas
