  1. you know i was wondering the same thing too!!!!does sound a little sexist.

  2. Gender studies= the studies on gender trends and studys of why the genders act the way they do. It studies stereotypes among BOTH genders.

Women's studies= the studies of the past and women's history and on how they were oppressed and how things are changing. Men ruled the world and were never oppressed, therefore it's only called women's studies. Sorry hun

  3. This is quite interesting to me because, also, they have stuff about alternative or "g*y" studies but not really anything about "heterosexual" studies.  It seems as though "men" and "heterosexuality" are two topics that are just a "given" as if everyone "knows" about those subjects.  Then again, it rings a suspicious tone of perhaps scholars feeling as though the subjects of "men" or "heterosexuality" are not interesting enough for study.  It seems almost too weird to me that the stuff which is still considered to be "the norm" in our society does not really have much scholarly material written about it.  Hmm... maybe the scholars are hiding some things as far as their perspectives on these issues are concerned... meaning that they feel "if it ain't wrong don't break it."  It's something to think about.

  4. Why don't you write them and ask them for one? Instead of complaining about something you find to be a problem, be the solution.....

  5. If there was a "Men's Studies" the feminists would cry sexism.  It's just another double standard ingrained into acedamia.

  6. What Kirby said

    Hi Bradley!!

    **waves**

  7. because if there was one, someone would accuse Y! of being sexist.

  8. I never knew that, but that is a very good point!  Sometimes I think in our pursuit of being "Politically Correct," we are actually being more discrimnative then if we weren't.  I would actually find it very informative, from a female perspective, to have a Men's Studies.  There is ALWAYS more than one side of things.

  9. There should be and I wish there was.  Why don't you get together a petition, and we can all sign it!

  10. Some men are reluctant to seek direction...

  11. Because women's studies is a major academic field. Men's studies is not. The "gender" part of the category name means that any issues relating to gender belong here. It is a catch-all which would also include men's issues and "men's studies."

  12. Men belong to the male gender.

  13. Same reason why there was an "African American Studies" class at my university, but not a "White American Studies" class...

  14. Double standard sexism.
