Because here in the US, Archaeology is a sub-discipline of Anthropology unlike in Europe where it is a discipline of its own and usually studied with history.  Much of this is because in Europe, Archaeology is used to explain much of the history of the peoples of Europe, their cultures and their pre-historic past; whereas, here in the US, the peoples of the New World are not the ancestors to the dominate cultures.

  5. Archaeology is one of the four sub-disciplines of Anthropology, so that is probably why they don't have just a section devoted to Archaeology.

    Ancient history is not necessarily archaeology.  Archaeology is divided into two major sections: historic archaeology, which deals with cultures and civilizations which have writing, and prehistoric archaeology, which investigates cultures and societies from the past that did not have writing.

    Ancient history can be found more properly in the history section.
