  1. Because it is a monopoly!

  2. And why is abbreviation such a long word?

  3. This joke is almost as old as the Monopolies Commission itself and seems to be endlessly repeated by each new generation that hears it for the first time. There is probably only a quarter of the U.K. population of nearly 60 million people who haven't seen it yet.

The answer, of course, is that the Monopolies Commission is a singularity, or super-massive black hole into which everything, even light, disappears and never comes out.

  4. Goodun :-)

  5. They have a monopoly in the field!
