Why is there orange powder on my grass?

My grass is sprinkled with this orange powder stuff that looks like rust. What is it?

  1. It is indeed rust.  We had it two years ago.  Turned our mower a nice rusty color.  Harmless, though - we did nothing and it was gone it a couple months - never came back.


  2. It is a lawn disease called rust.  There is not much that can be done for it, other than wait it out.  Fungicides can be used, but dont do a very good job once the problem has already started.  

    Put some fertilizer down to encourage some strong growth and continue to mow on a regular basis.  Over time, the disease will simply be "mowed" out of the lawn.  Also, make sure you are not watering the lawn at night.  If too much moisture sits on the grass overnight, it can cause rust as well as a slew of other diseases.
