Why is there so much anti-Scottish feeling and lies in the press in England?

Yes I know Gordon Brown is a t1t, but I hear nothing but moaning about how Scotland is subsidised by England, it's utter rubbish, we contribute more per head of the population to the treasury than comes back.

When I lived in England (Kent) I always got a hard time for being Scottish and it made me miserable, and don't start going on how there are too many Scots in England, official census figures show more English people live in Scotland than Scots in England!!

Because in a recent EU summit, every country voted for legislation that Scotland voted against. This legislation had to be passed by every country and now Scotland is receiving heat worldwide.

I hink you answered this in another of your answers to another question.  It seems to be more of a home counties thing.  The further north you go the less idiots you get that believe everything Kelvin McKenzie, or whatever his name is, writes in the tabloids, or the bile he spouts in frankly racist TV programmes.  In my experience Londoners are the worst for thinking that they are subsidising everyone else.  As for Brown...well that rhymes with clown.  No time for him or that C@@t Alistair Darling.

The Scottish seem to think Scottish Oil produces more revenue than it actually does, it currently accounts for less than 1.5% of UK GDP and generates less than 2% of UK Tax.

Scotland has been funded to a higher level via the Barnett Formula for many years now.

With even Barnett himself now questioning the higher rates paid to Scotland.

Scrapping the Barnett Formula in favour of a new system would be a step forward, as would an English Parliament ensuring that all the states which make up the union have their own parliament.

England is the financial powerhouse of the UK not Scotland with over 17% of the UK GDP being produced in London alone, and that figure rises to over 30% if the London commutter district is taken in to account.

Indeed England accounts for over 85% of total UK GDP.

Scotland has a GDP of £86 Billion (including North Sea Oil), or around 8%  of GDP (around 2% of this GDP comes from North Sea Oil Revenue).

Scotland has a similar GDP to that of the West Midlands and that is with it's oil. The South West of England also accounts for 8% of UK GDP.

Many English Regions contribute as much GDP asScotland (including North Sea Oil), so the extra funding provided by the Barnett Formula is clearly unfair, and Barnett even recognises the fact himself and has called for change.

Finally the Scottish themselves have been criticised in the past for being Anti-English, so it works both ways.

Personally I think that as we all share a small island, we should be trying to get along and not using history, religion,  football or your accent as a means to justify hatred.

However you can not blame people in England for being critical of the Barnett Formula.

There isn't anti-Scottish feeling. That's just the Jock chip on your shoulder exercising itself. The facts are also that the largest tax burden is on the English and the English pay a large proportion of the welfare and health benefits of the Scottish people. Scotland has a long and distinguished history. Scots have contributed massively to civilised advancement your daft whinging is a disservice to this fine record.
