Question:

Why is there so much concern about the wasting of water???

i thought that water was a "renewable resource", which meant that we will never run out of it... Think about it: When we let the water running when we brush our teeth, that water that we are supposedly "wasting" goes down the drain and don't they treat it with chemicals to use as more clean water?? I don't understand why people keep talking about things like future generations not having enough water because of our wastefulness.....why do people think we will one day run out of water??

  1. we won't  run out of water but the price of water (bottled water) will go up and up and up.  the reason it's bad to leave water running even though it is a renewable resource is because when it goes down the drain, it goes to the same place where we spit, throw up, pee, and p**p.  so they have to clean it and that costs. so we won't run out of water, we'll just have to pay more or maybe not clean it/stop selling it.  and unless you have you're own water purifying gadget, you're screwed

  2. ...we've got plenty of water...  The Oceans are full of it ! (better worry about the Ice-Cream supply)

  3. It is not that we will one day run out of water, you are right, that would be silly.  The issue is DRINKABLE water, which we have less of every year.

Yes, sewage is treated and filtered and can be made drinkable again.  But the chemicals needed to do that are NOT a renewable resource.  Most of them are in extremly limited supply.  Plus the fact that all that processing is freaking expensive.

Once upon a time, the idea of actually -paying- for water would have sonded ridiculous, it was just so common.  Now, there are entire aisles in some grocery stores devoted only to water.  The trend towards scarcity of drinking water is obvious to anyone who just looks.

  4. i've thought about this before too, and it may be a conspiracy but if people can conserve water it may make them more responsible all around. more responsible people= a better world

  5. well if you think logically

the only water we have is about 3% freshwater

    97% non-drinkable salt water

70% percent of freshwater is locked in ice caps

and the 30% we can drink, 90% of that is used for agriculture

so yes there is a huge demand for water seeing as 1/3 global poulation lives in a "water-stressed environment

  6. i'm guessing cuz of dry weather and they'll soon be gone and not enough . dirty water because humans are ruining the environment.

    cause:ozone, pollution , global warming.

  7. you cant renew it forever. eventuially its gonna be so full of chemicals

  8. Some areas there will be a concern, the rest will not be much a concern.

  9. The issue isn't about wasting water, it's about wasting purified water. There's lots of water, as you point out. Most of it is not fit to drink or cook with. Some of it isn't suitable to put on crops or lawns.

In many parts of the world, pure water has to come from quite a distance. Los Angeles imports some of its drinking water from a hundred miles away. In the Great Plains, water is pumped from an aquifer underground that was filled thousands of years ago. Atlanta has discovered that a drought can mean that there is not enough water for the city, and all the other cities in the region.

Pure water is scarce. Water is not.

  10. Wow man you are really needing to do more research before you make these kind of statements. You would do better to just ask the question that you obviously don't know the answer to and not speculate solely on your own common sense. I won't get into the whole economics of wasting water down your drain, I don't think you are ready for that yet, I will however inform you that there is an alarming amount of water that is used in industry that is contaminated with chemicals and can never be used again. Start with that if you are truly interested and you will find yourself becoming someone with 'so much concern about wasting water'.

  11. because out of all the water.. about 1?% isnt salt water.. by the waqy we cant drink salt water and we cant take the dissolved salt out of it either.  so out of that 1 % that we can drink, a ton of it is unnecessarily going down the drain where there are chemicals and other stuff thats really hard to take out of water, or even impossible.. so out of the 1% that we can drink, a lot of that water gets polluted with permanent chemicals(have u heard of acid rain?)so now, we have about less than 1% of drinkable water.. hooray and congratz.. also, the pop. is increasing
