The soda is already cold when it comes out of the fountain, so you only need a little ice? Why do they fill the ice to the top?

  1. to give you less soda, the ice takes up alot of the volume of your cup. The less they give you the more they still have to sell but you still pay the same price. When ordering specifically ask for little or no ice and state that you have a tooth sensitivity. you are more likely to get more soda for your buck that way.

  2. Because ice is cheaper than the soda.

  3. they do that to keep from giving you more drink.

  4. ice is cheaper than soda, so they load up on the ice

  5. Because ice is cheaper than the soda. Just ask then to go light on the ice.

  6. Probably to save cost on the soda. They don't use as much soda with all that ice. If they didn't use all that ice, the soda would probably run out fast. Especially in the summer and all those supersized drinks.

  7. They do that so that they aren't spending so much money on soda. With the cup full of ice, they are only giving you about a third of the soda that they would be giving you without ice. Ask for little ice.

  8. It's all about money. They fill the cup with as much ice as they can so they won't have to give you as much soda. Next time when you order a drink, tell them not to put any ice in it. You'll definitely get your money's worth.

  9. its to keep it cold

  10. Ice is cheaper than soda.  But, most fast food restaurants have dispensers where you fill your own cup with as much ice and soda as you want.......

  11. Everyone here is WRONG.

I work in fast food so I know.  My boss doesn't sit in his office laughing maniacally and charting drink sales.  Soda is the least expensive thing in a fast food restaurant.  A giant box of syrup costs $20 and can make 500 drinks.  Buying the drink in the first place is a rip-off.  It matters very little how much ice is in the cup.

Secondly, there is no set protocol on how much ice we must put in cups.  I put more ice in because I have to sit and wait for the drink to fill when I could be helping another customer.  There is more ice so it takes less time to fill and I can get the next person taken care of so the lines don't back up.  Hence "fast" food.

Also, the more ice you put in the cup the more times the person filling the cup has to refill their ice bin.  It is a lose-lose situation.

    Here's how you can win:

    A.  Ask for light ice

    B.  Get refills and say: no more ice.

Anyway, I am the most reliable source you are going to find on this.  I fill hundreds of drinks everyday.

  12. Ice is cheaper than soda. So they fill up the cup with ice before adding the soda to save money. If I am getting a to go soda I usually request no ice. That way I can get the maximum amount of soda. I can add the right amount ice later if I want to.

  13. More ice=less soda. They're saving money and gypping you.

  14. so you will have it colder on the go it will last longer

  15. Because when they are trained they are told to do it that way to save the compnay some money, but you can say alittle ice please, and they'll do it that way.

  16. I've noticed that too, i'm guessing so that they don't use up too much beverage; their cheating you on drinks if you think about it...McDonald's is so good in doing that

  17. it maters???

  18. I love ice in my soda

  19. Customary is to fill the glass 1/2 full of ice.  If you are finding more ice in your area, I would ask for 'light on the ice', or 'no ice' if it is cold enough for you.

Personally, I like LOTS of ice.

If it is not the way you like it, speak up the next time!

  20. they do it 2 like save more soda because  its more money there spending instead of saving. And water is so much cheaper then soda is.

  21. More ice, less room for soda. That's how you make money in that industry, making you think your getting a good deal when you should be asking them to at least pull your hair first (foreplay).

  22. So they can strike a balance between saving money and keeping your drink cold.

  23. To keep it cold but yes sometimes they put tooooo much!

  24. first of all because then you et less soda. and because it gets cold after.

  25. I believe they fill the ice to the top so it appears that it's a full glass of soda when it actually isn't. Next time you order a soft drink remove all the ice with a spoon and see how much soda is actually put in the cup
