Simple, because there is such a demand for it...

I'm sure I will get a boat load of thumbs down for this...but WHATEVER!

Take a look at the ACTUAL data linking violence to p**n (the categorizations of what is considered violent are ridiculous).  People gripe and complain about those that judge...well, the same must apply with pornography.  

ANYTHING is bad in excess.  But p**n is often times the scapegoat for other issues that truly harm marriage and family.

Because while America seems to turn a blind eye to violence in popular culture however s*x and nudity have always been shunned to the sub-verse.

While middle America pretends like the Victorians to be prudes forcing s*x and nudity into the realms of pornography (which is an entire different entity which has nothing to do with s*x but power) Americans (and American culture of course) will of course rush out and buy anything which is seen as risqué or taboo because it's human nature to do so.

Unfortunately this means that Pornography has a greater presence on the Net than every other faset of human thought combined.  When you look at this logically pornography is nothing more than a set of power games played out over over again in the most monotonous way.  Sad isn't it?

Personnaly I think if we had a more natural attitude to the way we view s*x and nudity by not always labelling it as 'evil' there would not be such a demand for pornography.  We certainly wouldn't be getting our Knickers in such a twist over a woman showing one boob before the watershead.

With regards to the evils of pornography that is for another day (or question), but one thing I would like to point out is that solely looking at the purchasers of pornography and ignoring the producers I believe you are missing the main gripe most people have with the industry.

Sure there are a few high paid p**n actors who choose to do what they do but the vast bulk, especially the countless powerless individuals in the third world who fall victim to pornographers and the 's*x' industry suffer the most.   Or look at who's at  the bottom end of the p**n industry in America? Do you really believe countless numbers of 'barely legal' young people choose this as a career option? How many people here, who are subjected to sexual humiliation come from well-to-do backgrounds?

But like everything in our world today people don't really care that there are more slaves in the world  today whether they're working 18 hours a day to barely make enough to eat or young people forced into prostitution contribute to the family income in order to provide some pics to a Asian teen fetish site for the western market.

But do we really care as long as the Nike shoes and pics keep coming our way?  As long as the children under 18 don't see Janet's breast because that would be truely awful!

Oh dear I better stop before this turns into a full blown rant.

America is the land of excess in all things. People who haven't even grown up with prayer in schools or or who go to a church regularly, or at all still make regular complaints that Christians "are cramming the Bible down their throats". While on the other hand Americans are gunning each other down at alarming rates, pornography is rampant, and they have metal detectors and policemen in schools. Do I think there is a direct correlation between the morals and values that are no longer a part of our culture and the excesses we see? You bet I do.

So, it isn't just pornography, the issue is much broader and deeper.
