Why is there so much pride today ?

it's hard to get away from it no matter where you live.

people who are good looking think they deserve more respect than others because of that.

people who got a great education think that makes them better than people who didn't.

people who make a lot of money think they are better than others who make less

people who are deep into new age think they have a lot of knowledge and that makes them better than everyone else

many doctors look down on chiropractors and nurses

what's wrong with people ? almost every religion belives that at the end of our lives were all judged based on how we treated others, if we have love, did we help people when they were down (this isn't just the poor). all the knowledge, university degrees, money we accumulate will mean nothing because its limited to a fallen physical world.

That is the effect of spread of democratisation and education in modern time. In good olden times, the better off were the royalty, the lords and the moneyed who were a minority. They alone had the necessary justification to feel proud. The common and laity were in multitude and they lived a life of serfdom to the lords. The lowly never felt any need for pride. In the modern times, with the spread of education and democratisation of the polity, there are many who are moneyed and less of poverty. Many have reasons for pride, on account of education, money, beauty which is artificially propped up and made up by the moneyed class. Hence, the more pronounced trend of pride in modern times. As a matter of fact, a true education should make a person more humble and never self-conceited. On the contrary, the educated are more puffed up. Bad education is that which does not teach any value education. The situation is very bad indeed.
