Why is there so much social unrest in the U.K.?

The U.K. is one of the most socially advanced countries in the world. Nowhere else can you find so many rights and privileges. And such excellent living standards and sanitation.

Why should the people who live in the U.K. complain so much when they live so comfortably? It's easier to make ends meet in the U.K. than in the USA. And if you get sick or hurt, the government takes you in under her wing until you are well enough to join the work force again. Even if it's as basic as pregnancy.

What gives?

  1. I'll offer an outsider's opinion.

    As more and more basic needs are met by the government, we eventually take those subsidies for granted.  We think of them as rights, rather than subsidies.  We tend to accept the concept that we need not be productive because society will always provide for us.

    But, then, a class, or group, of individuals begin to realize that they cannot rise above this lowest level of social class, no matter how hard they work or how determined they are.  They don't have the mental acuity or the athletic prowess to rise above the masses.  They suddenly realize that they are stuck at the bottom rung of society.  Of course, they have access to the basics of life, but they have few ways to feel that they are exceptional or staunch providers for their family or themselves.

    At this point, many turn to anti-social behavior in an attempt to blame society for their personal, perceived inadequacies...
