  1. STFU

  2. I'll add to Duh.. It does still make money as the FM band is too crowded in most places to hold many of the stations that are on the air today with AM radio being the number 1 source for talk/sport radio in the US.

Also with it's properties to travel longer distances than a comparable FM signal, it's still a valuable commodity in the west.

But think of it this way.. More ethnic programming for Minorities are heard on Am then anywhere's else giving many in locations a place to go to for their sometimes only source of news

  3. A.M. signals can reflect off the ionosphere and  be recieved alot further distances than F.M signals,

And because the A.M signal travels so much further,The fcc has put in place a clear channel network that can be used in case of a nuclear attack, or an attack on our satelites, or some other extreme emergency.

  4. For People To Listen To The Hockey Game When They Are In The Car, Or Because Maybe They Can't Get FM Radio Where They Are, Or The Farm Reports.

    Hope That Helps You Some.

  5. I listen to both AM / FM. Let me explain. AM was the on the air, way before FM.  FM became really popular during the Disco era. There's Rush Limbaugh and most of the radio stations his radio show airs, is AM radio. AM is real bad being staticy.  FM sounds like a concert.  WKY AM 930 came on the air, in 1920 in Oklahoma City. When its dark at night, I used to listen to WHO AM 1040 from Des Moines, Iowa.

  6. Because AM radio makes money for the people who own the stations. This is the reason any station (or business) exists.

And don't kid yourself, it's the only reason.
