Why is there such a temp diff between the hallway and my dining room?

it is like 5-10 degree diff always. New siding new windows standard hi ranch style house. What gives? I feel the temp diff and the thermostat displays the temp in both hallway and dr.

  1. My thermostat is in the hall across from a bathroom and I had the same issue. If you have a bathroom in the hall, close the register. Leaving it open keeps the hall cool so the air won't kick on. This really made a difference for me. Also close off the register to the laundry room and only open them when you're in there.


  2. You could have a damper valve in the dining room vent that's not opened.  Opening this would allow more cool air to blow in.  What temp is the thermostat set to - do you want the air to be 68 or 78?  Does air blow out of the dining room vent?

  3. Thermostats can only tell the temp. where they are. Where is the thermostat? Some people can achieve better average temperatures by keeping the fan switch in the on position, but your indoor fan will never stop running. Your cooling will continue to cycle as before. Hope that helps.
