Question:

Why is this woman in my bowling league complaining?

I bowl in a fun league with three of my friends. We are excellent bowlers and have a team scratch(w/o handicap) average of 772. We are there to have fun and do not take it seriously. The handicap for each team is 90% of 800. In our case, 800-772= 28x.9= 25.2. Our team handicap is 25.

One woman on another team was complaining to everyone that we bowl too high. The thing is, 1st and 4th place is separated by only 3 points and if 2nd place took all of theirs, we wouldn't even have sole possession of 1st place going into next week.

What this woman does not realize is that since handicap is added before the first person bowls, we do not even gain the lead until the 7th or 8th frame. If someone on my team bowls 15-20 pins under their average, that means unless the 3 others make it up, the game is decided in the 10th frame, hardly a blowout.

I find it absolutely unnecessary to complain when we are not even running away with it. What are your opinions?

  1. It never fails because there are some bowlers that never seem to get the idea that unless you're a professional bowler or amateur scratch bowler, it's only a game.....

In our fun league (no-tap jr. adult), there are some low to mid average bowlers that tend to "play games" with the advanced bowlers by loudly vocalizing their pleasure at striking even though it may be a no-tap strike, standing extremely close to the ball return even though it is not their turn and just plain not showing proper bowling etiquette by running onto the lane even while we're addressing the ball and about to start out approach.

Even if it is a fun, non-sanctioned league for blowing off steam during the weekend, it's definitely a task for us advanced bowlers to tolerate the distractions and lack of respect from those that are of lower skill levels.

  2. Who cares, just have fun.

  3. s***w her! Go out and beat the team she's on. If your team is locked for a win in a game, start 'sandbagging'. As much as I'd say go kick her team's @ss, try to keep your team's handicap from becoming lower. However, if the race for 1st to 4th is tight and the total pins overall for the season is close, don't 'sandbag'. If, by the end of the season, teams have similar records, the team with the higher overall pin count get the higher seed/spot.
