Why is two plastic bags stronger than one? When shopping is double bagged, isn't each bag still as strong?

  1. You can think of it like the old saying about a single stick breaking easily while many sticks don't break so easily.

    When you've added another bag, you've added that much more mass for the weight to try and stretch through.

    You can tear a single piece of paper, but tearing through 20 at once would be more difficult, no? XD


  2. two plastic bags r strongr than one bc plastic stretches b4 it breaks and two bags give it more thickness.

  3. Plastic stretches before it breaks.  The second bag supports the first by stretching with it.

  4. Well to explain technically, when you put some things in your plastic bag, there is some stress on the bag, if the load increases more that the capacity of the bag, the bag breaks. When you put another bag, that means the capacity of the bags doubles, the stress gets halved, so the load is also halved, that means the bag wont break. It is stronger...

  5. 2 is more than 1 so probably 2 together will be stronger than each of them seperately.
