  1. Because you have already made the money, but not yet provided the service. You owe somebody something.

    If I gave you 20 dollars to give me a hotdog a day for 20 days, you would have 20 dollars, but it would be a liability until you fulfilled your end. Meaning that you still have to buy the product and produce it for me.
