Please do not blame my machine!!!!! I have far more then enough horsepower with 2.4 gigabytes of memory and a dual core 3.20 ghz cpu. Please do not blame stuff running in the background either as vista is sluggish out of the box without anything installed.

  1. Please do not blame the machine? Then why ask?

It IS your computer- I work with them.

Vista has two video resolution and you need to disable the high graphic (Aero i believe its called) and go to  vista basic graphics (You WONT see the difference with your eyes, but it speeds up the system). If you don't have a good video card (Again, MANY were packed with "minium" video card), it lags the system.

ALSO, background appliaces from OUT of the box are to blame as well!  You need to remove the start up applicances that you do NOT need.  All those little things will perk it up.

  2. yeah i heard too! vista sucks it so slow thats why they call it the failure!

  3. I have returned three Vista computers and given Vista every signal break possible.  I absolutely agree with you.  If you speak to Microsoft, they are trying to convince the world everything is fixed and nothing is wrong-Their computers are fast-like lightening.  I've heard all that c**p before.

After being a lifetime Microsoft junkie, the last straw was when MS refused to help me with a simple question I had regarding Vista and directed me to go to HP.  None of the developers of Vista or at Microsoft care about the end user or their experience.

I ended up buying a Mac and, using Bootcamp loaded XP. Now all my applications work perfectly.  And when all the Vista people tell me at how fast their aps run, I bring up XP on my Mac and blow them away.

If you are using vista and not comparing its functionality to XP, than everything can be claimed to be faster.  But if you compare it to any other OS, you will see it really does nothing but worsen your computer experience over XP.

For one, the Video and Sound platforms are still not fully developed.  Because they are not, the drivers for Vista certified hardware and software cannot fully integrate with the OS.  It also gives the Video cards lag regardless of how much dedicated video memory you have.  Sound quality sound like you're in the Beetles yellow Submarine.

Folders when you try to save and transfer, also have problems when in many cases folders cannot delete.  Drivers still don't work despite MS insistence otherwise and second, the software has more bloat than ever before.  Microsophmores will tell you to turn off AERO.  But if you do that, what does a Vista user have left that and XP doesn't. I'll tell you, absolutely nothing except their computer is still slower because there still hasn't been a processor designed that can run Vista.  If you have as strong a computer you indicate, chances are you enjoy gaming, if that is true, you will need to downgrade (upgrade in my view) to XP.  But before your do that, make sure you have all the XP drivers.  With respect to video lag and quality, all you have to do is run real player and quicktime in vista, then see the sharpness and unbroken video stream on a mac, then try it on XP.  Your observation is the reason why 50% on those who use Vista want to return to to XP.  Vista gives users no reason to upgrade their computers

  4. mine is fast as h**l, but I have a quad core processor, and 4gb of memory. But, really, get windows advanced care personal from Cnet.com, is should really help

  5. First, what version are you running?

Hard Drive size, ect.  Provide the stats.

I'm running Vista Ultimate on my custom comp and it just speeds through everything, granted I did a clean install instead of an upgrade.  Much like XP imo, only with more graphic features and shortcuts.

Please link the rest of your stats for further help.

  6. Jason-

Hey, my name's Cody, and I'm working with the Windows Vista Outreach Team to help answer questions and concerns users might have about Vista.

Sorry to hear your computer's running a little sluggish!  A lot of the folks here have given some great suggestions on how to make your Vista-run PC perform a little faster, but I wanted to share one more bit of information that might be helpful to you.

Microsoft actually just released a document users can download that details some of the ways you can boost Vista’s performance speed, and here’s the link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

You may have heard some of these before, but they are some fairly simple ways to make sure that you can get the most performance out of your Vista-run PC.  I hope it’s helpful!

    Thanks,

    Cody

  7. well i wouldn't say you have enough memory.. vista runs well or should i say properly on 4 to 8 gig of memory... adding a graphics card with a gig of memory will solve your problem

  8. Actually Vista isn't sluggish out of the box. I have had no problems with tons of software running together (Photoshop, Flash, iTunes, Office apps, VMWare and many others).

It IS the hardware. If you are using Aero, your video card probably isn't that great for it.

  9. My computer is as same as yours. It is slow too. I think graphics and vista aero themes make it slow.

Windows Classic Theme may be faster.
