  1. Its just a poor product, designed to look pretty but they somehow forgotten the art of lean programming, as well as what customers really wants. I have seen so many new high end Dells that runs slowe than their 5 year old XP

  2. I would suggest reading about a fewq things that will improve the speed.

    1. TSR Programs -- These pieces of software run in the backround without you possibly seeing them.  First thing I would do is remove any startup programs that are from 3rd party developers that you do not use EVERY time your on the PC.  Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at the processes that are running and how much RAM they take.  If you are unsure what a process does feel free to google the name.....a description is easy to find.  Then you can disable those startup items..........its not hard but I am not going into to detail on that subject.

    2.  You have 2 gigs of RAM and VISTA takes up about 1GB.  I found going from 2gb to 3gb was a huge difference.

    3.  Is video games or video in general the problem?........if so you need to get a video card.  If its for gaming mkae sure you do some research......I would not buy anything under about $120 right now.....cards priced below that dont seem to have the video game guts....make sure you get 512k memory or more on the card and that it is specifically discussed in some of your favorite games.

    4.  Standard windows tips.....derfrag your drive and registry......etc.

    Hope this helps........

  3. Microsoft is a monopoly. It destroyed the competition legally instead of competitively. There is hope Ubuntu linux it is almost equivalent to XP, within a few years it will be better than anything microsoft can produce. The quality of Vista depends on which type of Vista you have loaded. Microsoft sends Vista basic to the computer vender's so that they don't load up Linux, at the same time Vista basic is crappy enough that the purchaser will want to purchase another level of Vista.

  4. My Vista PC is blazing fast. You may have a program slowing it down in the background, you may need to get the latest updates or you could have a hardware issue?

XP is a bit faster but, as long as you have all the updates it is hardly noticeable.

  5. Ah, but it is your computer. I have only a 2.66 GHz dual core and 2 gigs of RAM, and Vista is lightning fast on my machine. So your problem must be somewhere else, but it's definitely not a universal one.

  6. You have 2430 megabytes of RAM? How odd as each gigabyte has 1024 megabytes, so times two would be 2048 megabytes of physical RAM. Even if we added either 256 megabyte or a 512 megabyte video cards onboard RAM, the numbers still don't come out right. Maybe you simply have a mistype here.

Anyway, around 2 gigabytes of installed RAM isn't enough to run Vista without is slowing down when using more intense applications. Depending upon how much stuff you have running in the background, I would say you are too low on RAM. Install additional RAM and see how much faster your Vista OS responds. The difference is huge.

I built my Vista Ultimate machine a few months back with just 2 gigabytes of installed physical RAM and I was quick to add 2 more as it was a bit sluggish, and afterwords it is lightening fast. I run a lot of intensive applications, such as video editing, photo, multimedia streaming and playing, etc, and often have multiple programs open along with all my background services and third party utilities. So, it IS your machine.

Good luck and have a nice day.

  7. Something's using your memory like a hog and it's not Vista. I've a new Dell with Vista home premium. The 'puter runs lightning fast with only 2GB of memory. Do you have multiple versions of JAVA? Do you have 3 toolbars running at the same time? What programs are you running that are making the box run 'slow'? I suggest a scan with Hijack this!  What's in your systray and start up? All systray objects upon boot use your memory. What's in your strart up? Also, have you checked for any malware/spyware using your memory? Open task manager. (Right click on taskbar) Go to the 'processes' tab. See what's the memory pig. Then click the performance tab and use the program. One by one you'll see the program(s) that are CPU pigs. Get rid of the c**p you don't need/use.
