  1. its not, but the environmentalist want you to think that it is.

  2. Unfortunately, from what we know water is a finite resource. In some places of the world it is much more apparent than others, how sacred of a resource water really is.

I think it would be difficult to really understand the true impact of water on your life until and/or unless you either are put into, or put yourself into a situation where water is severely limited or restricted.

In the US, for example, it is much more likely for those living in areas used to severe drought to have barrels and bins located on their property to capture rainwater to use to water their plants and trees. These same people are also more likely to use gray water (water from washing clothes, for example) for outside watering to keep plants and trees alive.

Some countries still continue to pollute their water supplies... while others struggle with no way to irrigate their crops....

IMO, there just isn't any such thing as extra water. We use it for everything... to cook in, to drink, to wash things with, for our waste disposal, for recreation.... also a large part of our food resources come directly out of the water and nothing that we do eat can be produced without water somewhere along the way...

What would you do if you woke up one morning to find that there was no water available to you?

Look what happened in New Orleans following Katrina... There was water, water everywhere... but not a drop to drink....

  3. Why conserve?

Water conservation should be important to all of us since water plays a huge role in everyone's life. With the average Georgian's water usage being a whopping 168 gallons, there's no reason why we shouldn't conserve. Taking 3 showers a day or staying in the shower for 45 minutes wasting gallons upon gallons of water for no reason are reasons why we need to think about our water usage.

Water is a renewable resource, but hardly any of the water on earth is fresh. With such little fresh water, and that water being contaminated at a high rate it is crucial that we conserve now and always.

    Wasted Water

According to the H2ouse webiste , the average shower is 8.2 minutes and the average flow rate is 2.2 gallons per minute. So, the average American uses 18.04 gallons of water per shower! The average faucet flow per minute is 1.3 gallons per minute. If you're brushing your teeth for 1.5 minutes, that's 1.95 gallons of water you use every time you brush your teeth if you leave the water on. Those are just two teeny, tiny  examples of water that you could save everyday by simply taking shorter showers and  turning off the water when you brush your teeth!  According to Stacy Shelton of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution "Metro Atlanta's water planners are backing off a plan to force property owners to replace old, inefficient toilets, shower heads and faucets before they sell their homes and businesses." By 2030, the mandate was expected to save as much water as unincorporated Forsyth County currently uses.  This could have been a major win in the battle against water waste! According to the Forsyth County Government website, "In Forsyth County, the 22,000 customers of the Water & Sewer Department use an average of 6.2 million gallons a day. But in the summer, when demand is highest, water usage jumps to 9.6 million gallons a day."

    HOW TO CONSERVE?

    OUTDOORS:

Lawn watering is the most serious threat to our water supply. Aurorans use 28 million gallons of water a day in July & August, compared to 16 million gallons per day in winter.

Rain water is better than city water is for lawns. Established lawns do not need much (if any) watering to survive.

If you must water the lawn, do so after 6 pm or before 8 am, and not on windy days.

Maintain a lawn height of 2 to 3 inches to help protect the roots from heat stress and reduce the loss of moisture.

Aerate clay soils at least once a year.

    Xeriscape: Plant drought-resistant plants.

Replace more lawn with no care shrubs, perennial gardens, rock gardens, etc.

Mulch garden (e.g., with grass clippings or wood chips) to retain moisture, control weeds, & provide nutrients.

Use drip irrigation at roots for trees, shrubs, and gardens.

Wash car using a bucket of soapy water & shut-off nozzle for rinsing. Washing car on the lawn will help filter pollutants.

    INDOORS

Turn water off while brushing teeth and shaving; save 30+ gallons/month.

Shorten shower by 1-2 minutes and save 200+ gallons/month.

Use a low-flow showerhead, & over its 20 year lifetime save up to $2000 on water, gas, & water treatment bills.

Rinse produce in a filled sink or pan, & save 100-250 gallons/month.

Put a plastic bottle full of water or install a toilet tank dam in your older toilet tank & save 1000+ gallons/year.

Install a low-flow toilet, & save up to 22,000 gallons/year ($100+). They work as well as older toilets. Check toilets for leaks by placing a few drops of food coloring in the tank. If after 15 minutes the dye shows up in the bowl, the toilet has a leak. Leaky toilets can usually be repaired by replacing the flapper.

Fix leaky faucets. Most can usually be repaired by replacing the washer.

Check if you have leaks, by seeing the water meter when no water is being used. Find and repair. Even small leaks can amount to big bills over time.

Buy water efficient clothes and dish washers. Run with full loads.

  4. it is very ipmportant because the same definite amount is still here from the time the dinosaurs were here. No water is ever added to the water cycle.

  5. Water, like every other resource we have should be conserved for obvious reasons. Read up on the ''Three R's''.

Ever heard of  ''Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle'' (the three R's)? Major corporations are implementing it but if every individual were to practice it as well the effects would be immense.

  6. There is an ever increasing demand for fresh water ,it is every individuals  right to have his share of clean & safe water for his personal needs, with the increase in world popultion the demand for potable water is constantly increasing .It is a fact worth remembering that every drop of misused water could have been a drop put to good use.Conservation cannot ever be taken lightly.

  7. If you live in a locality that has an abundance of water, then from an ecological standpoint, there would be no need to conserve, except for that fact that unlimited use of the water is going to use up resources (in particular, your money) that could be put to better use.  But, it would be hard to argue that you couldn't use as much water as you wanted.

In a locality that does not have an abundance of water, the responsible thing is to conserve water as much as you are able.  This would be for the good of the residents as a whole, not for conservation purposes.

Conserving your water, when there is no shortage, is not going to help people at another locale that have a drought.

  8. Because Global Warming is going to cause droughts like it currently is in Southern Australia.

The amount of water on Earth is 326,000,000 cubic miles, that won't change; but the ratio of fresh water to salt water changes with the weather.  We can only drink and water our crops with fresh water.  The more fresh, potable water you let flow down the drain, the less fresh water to drink and irrigate crops.

That leads to rationing because your city water reservoir only holds so much water.  If you use it faster than the rain replenishes the reservoir there won't be any fresh water left.

  9. anything that it make sense, is Important.

  10. Try going three days without fresh water.

Big multi-national corporations are eyeing every bit of water on this planet-I`m sure they will give you all you want, for a price.
