Question:

Why is water so unpalatable at breakfast?

At breakfast I can happily drink fruit juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate or even champagne. But I have no taste for pure water at all. I just can't manage more than a few sips if I try it. I'm happy drinking water at any other time of day. Why does water seem to be so unpalatable early in the morning?

  1. with breakfast it just dose not taste good

  2. I drink water right when I get up.  I’m usually a little thirsty and it helps get rid of morning breath.  I head downstairs and get a cold bottle of water.  I usually finish that up in a few minutes and get on with the rest of my morning routine.  So, one bottle is out of the way and I have 3 more to finish by the end of the day.  Never drink water with breakfast.  And any water I drink has to be cold.  I hate room temp water.

  3. It has no taste.

    Think of breakfast items

    Alot of sweets or salt.

    Pancakes with syrup.

    Cereal with sugar.

    Eggs with bacon ( salt).

    Pop tarts

    Toast with salted butter.

    O.J. etc ,etc.

When you wake up, your taste buds are still asleep and need a good shot of salt or sugar.

The body naturally craves sugar and salt in the am.

( I can't tolerate water in the am either).

  4. I don't know. Never heard of this before. The first thing I do when I get up is drink 2 glasses myself.

  5. I like water when I first get up--especially if I was drinking the night before.  I'll have a cold glass, and then make some nice, strong coffee.
