So weed is illegeal because you can't put tax on something you grow in your back yard. What about oranges, apples and all greens that you can grown in the back yard?

I can get seed from my next door name that grows fruits and veggies but i can't grow weed brcause it can't be taxed? that sounds like a bunch of BS.

  1. Weed is illegal because when they lifted Prohibition back in the 1930's they could tax alcohol.  My dear old mum, bless her heart, told me that weed grew everywhere in the Midwest, but they all wanted alcohol because IT WAS ILLEGAL!

There are many good uses for hemp besides smoking it, which by the way, is still fun.  It's too hard to tax anything that grows anywhere.  I guess the Feds really dig that cult film of the 30's : "Reefer Madness"!

  2. hahahaha well i say that is is a thing that can harm you even wores then smoking. so therefor they band that stuff. plus i think that if the people that baned the weed cant have it then they make a law so you cant hae it hahahaha well that is what i think...

  3. Weed is illegal because back in William Randolph Hearst's day he had paper mills. Hemp paper is far superior to wood pulp paper but Willie didn't raise hemp he was a lumber baron. He also owned several politicians enlisted to help him make it illegal to grow hemp.

By the way it is legal to grow agricultural hemp in North Dakota.

  4. Weed is illegal because in the beginning of the 20th century the surgeon general decided to increase his popularity by starting a campaign against marijuana.  It worked, he got tons of publicity, made everyone afraid of this "dangerous drug" and Congress passed a law banning it.  It has nothing to do with taxation.

  5. i dont smoke weed but i am 13 and smart enough to figure out the government so just hear me out.

since weed is grown so offen the government cannot control it. controlling weed sales also means controlling taxes on the weed. taxes would go wacko and the government couldnt control it.

every other thing and buisness has to have taxes that are controlled by the gov and weed isnt and doesnt. so basiically the government would be losing taxes

  6. Actually the marijuana tax act was pushed through in the 1920,s "can you say Harry J. Anslinger?" due to pressure from the southwestern states who viewed the mexican population as an unwanted or unneeded segment of society, and since everyone knew the mexicans smoked weed it was a way to make being here undesirable to them, all the other reasons came later

  7. As you have pointed out, it is not illegal because it can't be taxed.  It is illegal, according to the head of the DEA, because the people in charge of keeping law and order are afraid that in a country where 120 million people consume alcohol, if they legalize another drug, they will be endorsing countless millions more to use yet another drug.  I think if they had it their way, they would make alcohol illegal too.

  8. Fruits are not a Controlled substance.

There are states that have Medical Marajuana Perscription programs for treating cataracts and cancer patience who suffer from terrible side effects from chemotherapy.

As for not being able to grow it in your own back yard because its not taxable, no thats not why you can't grow it.

  9. Thank you WHO for the information, less work for me clattering the keys

To all of you who think Mary Jane is a monster, phooey.

I have friends that smoke daily and function well in their positions. I have friends and acquaintances with PhDs who take a puff now and then and manage to write grant proposals and papers without hesitation. I have been known to do it on occasion, albeit, somehow managed to stay off Heroine and Cocaine, wow, what a feat, not! Half of this country is medicated on some sort of synthetic drug concocted by labs for the sole purpose of monetary gain and yet some of you are afraid of a plant produced by Mother Nature herself?

If you manage your life and the whole experience of living with a modicum of self regulation, nothing and I mean nothing will consume your soul. I'm out!

  10. it's not illegal since you can't tax it...it was made illegal because it is often the gateway drug to bigger and better AND MORE DANGEROUS drugs.  Once the high from weed is boring, most individuals are then more easily influenced to snort, pop, shoot, or otherwise "experiment" with other drugs; usually just before they make that all-to-often transition to a very non-productive, lazy, government AND DRUG depended burden on our society THUS sucking down our tax dollars.  I know, i know, the truth does hurt a little.  By the way, since when did inhaling toxic mind and personality altering combutionable smoke and fumes into our lungs (which were designed for air only) become harmless?  I know a weed smoking aquaintance who also thinks it's harmless to staple bolonga to his face and then stick his head into a fish bowl full of parahna!

  11. Who runs this country besides oil companies? The pharmaceutical industry!

If the oil companies could make the sun and wind illegal, they would. So think about it, don't you think if weed was legalized and free for the taking that more people would gravitate to its usage  instead of going broke on expensive pain killers and antidepressants?

Weed has proven highly touted therapeutic and safe medicinal  properties and is now legalized  in some states and is distributed under the care of a qualified physician if they feel the situation at hand warrants such administration.

  12. No that is not why it is illegal.  If they made it legal then they could tax it.

It is illegal because it destroys peoples brains.

  13. It's illegal cause it stinks and makes you dumb and zombie-like

It's not illegal in Northern California anymore. It can be used for medicinal purposes

  14. i dont smoke the stuff anymore, but i agree 100 percent.

  15. yeah but with weed you can make a whole lot of stuff that fruits and vegies cant!!!!! heres and article...MARIJUANA is DANGEROUS. Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.

The truth is if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! Entrepreneurs have not been educated on the product potential of pot. The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about an extremely versatile plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

Where did the word 'marijuana' come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant...as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years:

    * All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s; Hemp Paper Reconsidered, Jack Frazier, 1974.

    * It was LEGAL TO PAY TAXES WITH HEMP in America from 1631 until the early 1800s; LA Times, Aug. 12, 1981.

    * REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries WAS AGAINST THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769; Hemp in Colonial Virginia, G. M. Herdon.

    "I grew Hemp", George Washington

    * George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers GREW HEMP; Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France then to America.

    * Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America and it processed hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off Moscow's export to England; Emperor Wears No Clothes, Jack Herer.

    * For thousands of years, 90% of all ships' sails and rope were made from hemp. The word 'canvas' is Dutch for cannabis; Webster's New World Dictionary.

    * 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc. were made from hemp until the 1820s with the introduction of the cotton gin.

    * The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross's flag, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp; U.S. Government Archives.

    * The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky producing 40,000 tons. Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th Century; State Archives.

    * Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.

    * Rembrants, Gainsboroughs, Van Goghs as well as most early canvas paintings were principally painted on hemp linen.

    * In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs; Department of Agriculture

    * Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935; Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.

    * Henry Ford's first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the CAR ITSELF WAS CONTRUCTED FROM HEMP! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, 'grown from the soil,' had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel; Popular Mechanics, 1941.

    * Hemp called 'Billion Dollar Crop.' It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars; Popular Mechanics, Feb., 1938.

    * Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled 'The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.' It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th Century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

  16. If it were legal it would be taxed if someone sold it. Just the way alcohol and tobacco are taxed. People still make bootleg booze for illegal sale. Individuals can legally make limited amounts of beer and wine for their family's consumption.

One of the arguments for legalization would be increased revenue from taxes.

Your can grow your own fruits and vegetables. If you start a business to sell them, you will need a license and have to collect sales tax in most states

  17. If my thinking is correct, anything illegal cannot be taxed.  If so, then all the sellers would be charged with selling illegal products or for having illegal products for sale.  If you need a smoke, just buy cigarettes that are legal.

  18. That is not why it is illegal.

  19. You are all wrong....

It's illegal because Hemp crops were easier and hardier than cotton crops - which require chemical fertilizers and pesticides..(Probably all due to Dow Chemical or Dupont 3M)  all other reasons arose later. I'm pretty sure it was dupont that appealed to washington on this.

there are plenty of psychoactive substances that are legal... ie nutmeg & mace.  CHOCOLATE!!!

The pharmaceutical companies are the big drug pushers... anti-depressant sales would likely plummet if people could grow their own happy plant.

  20. There no law against you growing your own tobacco in your backyard. Its just that marijuana a mind altering drug, therefore making it illegal. But I do agree by by taxing it, and using it for medicinal purposes, we could all benefit from it somehow.

  21. Its only becasue the government wount be able to make money off of it...

  22. It is a bunch of BS!!!!  It is all about the money...the government wouldn't make money off of it any longer if it was made legal.
