  1. Actually it makes the plane easier to see once it is on the ground. If the plane is being looked at from the side it's easier to see with all the lights showing through the open window shades....for both ground crews and other planes.

       to  see  all  the  lights  down  below...................

  3. Because in the very rare chance that the plane crashes, that makes it easier for rescuers to look inside the plane for survivors.

  4. So in the rare event of a crash, you, the people around you and the crew can get a feel for the situation outside the plane.  For example, if there is a fire on the left side of the plane, the crew will know to have everyone evacuate out the right side of the plane.

  5. This is done so that the crew and passengers can readily see the situation outside the aircraft in the effect of an accident.  They can see which exits are clear, which might be blocked (fire or debris), etc.

    For the same reason, the cabin lights are turned down for landing at night. With the lights turned down, it's easier to see things in the darkness outside the airplane.
